I have experience in all kinds of writing styles; news, features, fiction, interviews, critical reviews, and more.
Currently, I’m writing for The Mecklenburg Times. We just set up a new wordpress blog to post stories while our real website is built by corporate. If you’d like to read some stories or leave some comments, visit http://mecktimes.wordpress.com.
Freelance Writing
I’m lucky enough to do freelance work for Gamespot.com, which means I get paid to play video games. Most of the time, it’s as fun as it sounds. Below you’ll find links to my reviews in the order that I did them and the system I played them on. I update this list with every review, so if you like what you read, you can come here to find my reviews.

My first book! I illustrated and co-authored it, and created many of the characters. You can purchase it here.
Magazine Work
TC Magazine Online
In August 08, most of my responsibilities at TC were shifted to the website, which launched September 8th. Whether it was creating content, posting content from others, managing and editing freelance content, or keeping the site navigation clean and updated, I did it all. Now with things up and running, I contribute with occasional articles and blog entries.
Albert Pujols Article-TC Magazine Issue 8, Spring 2008
I’m not a sports guy at all so when I found out I had to write an article on one of the best MLB players around, I was a little nervous. Thankfully, we decided to point the article towards Albert’s foundation, so I didn’t have to do too much baseball talk.
Ted Dekker Interview-TC Magazine Issue 8, Spring 2008
It was a real treat to talk to Ted Dekker. While I’m not the biggest fan in the world (that title belongs to my brother), I have read a few of his books. Not only did he reveal all kinds of (unpublishable) secrets about some upcoming books, but he also had some great things to say about writing, which meant a lot to me as a writer.
Editors Note-TC Magazine Issue 8, Spring 2008
I’m including this only because it was cool that I got to write one. We did a big double issue for the spring 08 issue. We split it evenly for guys and girls. Managing editor Laura Edwards took the girls side, and I did the guys. You may recognize the picture.
Sammi Hanratty Interview-TC Magazine Issue 8, Spring 2008
This was a fun interview. Sammi Hanratty is as cute as a button, and that’s not something I’ve ever felt the need to say about someone.
Movie previews-TC Magazine Issue 7, Winter 2007
My first job for TC was to write previews and reviews for the entertainment section, which included movies, music, video games, books, and gadgets.
Movie and Video Game previews-TC Magazine Issue 6, Fall 2007
Atheism article-TC Magazine Issue 7, Winter 2007
This article was very important to me. The purpose of the article was not to convert atheists, but to clear up some misconceptions Christians have about them. I interviewed Hemant Metha, the Friendly Atheist, and his answers to my questions were so good, I let them stand on their own. Unfortunately, some of the higher ups at the magazine felt that it had a pluralistic tone, and that there weren’t enough tips for salvation. You have to pick your battles when you’re a small publication and my colleague and I fought hard for this one, but we eventually lost. Edits were made, and egos were bruised, but the original still lives on my hard drive, and now, on this website
Jennette McCurdy Interview-TC magazine Issue 7, Winter 2007
This was an interview I did with Jennette McCurdy, co-star on iCarly, a new show on Nickelodeon.
Your Story-TC Magzine Issue 7, Winter 2007
For this story I interviewed Nick, a junior Olympic gold medalist in Tae Kwon Do. I also designed this spread.
College page-TC Magazine Issue 6, Fall 2007
In this article I wrote about a few things freshmen might want to avoid during their first year of college. This is another article that I pulled double duty as writer and designer.
Reliance Skate feature article-TC Magazine Issue 4, Spring 2007
For this story I interviewed seven pro skaters at different times and had to write an article as if they were all together. It was a pleasure getting to talk to these guys, they were very passionate about their sport and their spirituality, and I think I showed that in the article.
Writing for Fun
GameSpot User Soapbox Blog-Seeing My Feet
I was honored with a Soapbox emblem, which puts my blog on the front page. While I believe I’ve written better articles than the one that received the emblem, it’s still nice to be recognized.
Fiction
I’m currently working on a few pieces of fiction–two children’s books and a young adult novel. One of the children’s books is already done and I’m working on some illustrations now to get it ready for publishers. I hope to have it commercially published (or at least sold) before the end of the year.
